TurnKey Linux is a new open source project that aims to develop high quality software appliances that are easy to use, easy to deploy, and free.
In a nutshell, we believe everything that can be easy, should be easy!
Packaging a solution as a software appliance can be incredibly useful because it allows you to leverage guru integration skills to build ready to use systems (I.e., turn key solutions) that just work out of the box with little to no setup.
http://www.turnkeylinux.org/LAMPPIX, the Linux Live CD booting a webserver. LAMPPIX allows you to burn your web projects (i.e. PHP presentations or Perl scripts) onto a CD-ROM and give them away to others. They will only have to insert the CD and reboot -- if you configured LAMPPIX right (and this is really easy!) they can view your project.
http://lamppix.tinowagner.com/SLAMPP is a generic Linux distribution that can boot directly from a CD-ROM, or optionally can be installed on a local hard drive. It is designed to be used as an "instant home server". Similar to other Linux LiveCD distributions, SLAMPP gives a user new to Linux the chance to experiment with a non-Windows operating system, without the risk of changing or re-configuring the user's existing system. SLAMPP comes with preconfigured tools and applications that allow a personal computer to function as a server. Can you imagine how handy it is to have and carry a linux live CD that provides all things you need to setup such kind of server?
